The New Moon, or Amavasya, is considered to be very important in Hindu religion. On this day, people generally bathe, donate and make offerings to their ancestors. Along with this, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are also worshipped on Amavasya. This New Moon is important as it falls in the month of Jyeshtha and will coincide with Shani Jayanti and Vat Savitri Vrat. Did you know that any charity done on Amavasya Tithi will be fruitful and feeding food to cows, dogs or crows is believed to be auspicious?

Bhopal resident astrologer and Vastu consultant Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma explained why feeding the animals or birds is considered special on Amavasya. Well, according to Panchang, Jyeshtha Amavasya Tithi will fall on Thursday, June 6. The Amavasya Tithi is starting at 07:54 PM on June 5 and will end the next day at 6:07 PM.

As per religious beliefs, feeding a cow, dog or crow on the day of Amavasya tithi is considered to be fruitful. It is believed that by doing this, one gets relief from Pitrudosh and seeks the blessings of the ancestors. It is believed that the ancestors visit the descendants on Amavasya and hence the animals or birds are offered food.

In Hinduism, it is believed that offering tarpan to ancestors is important. If the ancestors are happy, then the descendants will be blessed abundantly and will not have to suffer. This time, Amavasya will coincide with Shani Jayanti and it is important to seek Shani Dev’s blessings as well. If Shani Dev gets angry, it may make a person face difficult times. Hence, on the day of Jyeshtha Amavasya, it is important to please Shani Dev as well as the ancestors.

On the day of Jyeshtha Amavasya, people should take a bath early in the morning in the Holy Ganga river or mix Ganga water in a bucket, wear clean clothes and offer prayers as per rituals. After this, water is offered to the Sun God and meditate. Right after this, people should donate to needy people as per one’s capacity. From food to clothes, you can donate anything.
