The year’s second and final solar eclipse will occur on October 2. It will begin at 09:13 pm on October 2 and end at 03:17 am on October 3. It will last for six hours and four minutes. The next solar eclipse will take place in 2025. As per astrology, the Sutak (inauspicious) period begins nine hours before a lunar eclipse and 12 hours before a solar eclipse. In India, the solar eclipse will take place at night and hence will not be visible here and no sutak period shall be observed. In Hinduism, it is prohibited to perform religious or auspicious activities during the Sutak period. Whenever an eclipse occurs, people are left wondering what they can do to mitigate the negative effects of the eclipse. In an interview with Local18, renowned astrologer from Haridwar, Pandit Shridhar Shastri shared that solar eclipse holds great importance in Hinduism. A solar eclipse always occurs on Amavasya (New Moon Day).

He suggested that as per the scriptures, taking a holy dip in the Ganga river at a pilgrimage site during an eclipse yields good results. The astrologer shared that if the dip is not taken at a pilgrimage site, then it would have no effect. Hindus believe that taking a bath in the Ganga river at a holy site will remove all negative effects.

Pandit Shridhar Shastri explained that the Ganga river, after descending from the mountains, first enters the plains at Haridwar, an important pilgrim site in India. If a person takes a bath in the Ganga river at Har Ki Pauri during the eclipse, all the negative effects get nullified. It also results in the blessings of Goddess Ganga with the individual.
